The Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development in Africa (YALDA), is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to the cultivation of young African leaders who will lead the development of the African continent. YALDA International has a vacancy for the position of Finance Director within its International Executive Committee reporting directly to the International Executive Chairperson.

The role consists of the following;

Brief:

The Finance Director is responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of the Organization’s financial and fundraising strategies including internal and external financial reporting. He/she serves is responsible for the business development arm of the organisation and is tasked with ensuring YALDA has a sustainable financial position.

Specific Duties:

·         Review and approve the preparation and finalisation of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics.

·         Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs and proposed new sites.

·         Coordinate and manage audit activities within all YALDA’s subsidiary organisations, branches and within its central secretariat.

·         Responsible for the development and execution of a sound fundraising strategy leveraging off existing and new partners

·         Have overall oversight for the business development wing of the organisation and coordinate all activities and ensure the diversification of YALDA’s income stream

·         Work with branches, national and regional offices to source funds for strategic projects.

At this critical juncture in the process of finalising how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be measured, the event will highlight the experience of countries with multidimensional poverty measurement at the national level, and the importance of embedding such a measure within the new framework. Specifically, it will stress how a global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), as a core (tier one) indicator within the SDGs, alongside National MPIs as these come onstream, can energise a coordinated, effective and multi-sectoral attack on poverty in all its dimensions.

Distinguished speakers at the event will include:

·         H.E. Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan

·         H.E. Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia

·         H.E. Juan Orlando Hernández, President of Honduras

·         H.E. Rafael Correa, President of Ecuador (tbc)

·         H.E. Wu Hongbo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs

The event is organised by the Republic of Costa Rica and nearly 40 governments represented by the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN), a South-South network of senior government officials that is championing the use of multidimensional poverty measures alongside traditional income measures at both the national and global levels. These governments include China, Colombia, Mozambique, Mexico, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Vietnam among many others. The MPPN Secretariat is the Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative (OPHI), University of Oxford.

At its annual meeting in Cartagena in June 2015, the diverse participants within the MPPN endorsed the use of the global MPI for the SDGs and the use of national, regional and sub-national MPIs as powerful policy tools for enhanced anti-poverty programming.

YALDA MESSAGE ON INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY

At a time when conflicts and overt wars characterize the international system, peace should be at the very heart of each and every person in the world. Never has the world needed peace more than today. This year’s theme for the International Peace Day is Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All.  

Peace is a process and not a destination; in this process, partnerships and commitment from various parties is key to achieving peace. The words of          AJ Muste, “There is no way to peace, peace is the way” are relevant yet today wars are being waged; Today Syria cries for peace as it is virtually being brought down by ISIL and humanity seems to be failing in addressing the immigrants who flow to Europe. In Africa the intractable conflicts claim thousands of lives; Boko Haram in Nigeria, Alshabaab in Kenya and Somalia and various armed rebel groups in eastern DRC that commit war crimes and crimes against humanity, denying dignity to people in the areas proves to us the very fact that Peace is the only battle worth waging.

We call upon the youths of Africa and the world at large to not only believe in peace but also act it, peace starts with you and me;

YOUTHS let’s partner for peace so that we can have a dignified life.
